New You Resolutions - From goal to soul...



It was Albert Einstein that remarked that the true definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing over and over again but expecting a different outcome and never is it more pertinent than this time of year when we all start looking to the future and setting ourselves unrealistic fitness goals as part of our new years resolutions only to find that next year we will be doing the same thing without actually ever achieving any of them.


With 2020 appearing over the horizon, you might find yourself once again being tempted to have the intention to become healthier or leaner but this simply isn't enough. Even with all the willpower in the world, you are destined to fail unless you have a plan. After all, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.... Having a clear path to your success will help you turn ambition into action and will ensure that in 2020 you finish the year stronger, leaner and happier than you started it.


Below I've listed my 10 goals for 2020 and I have a plan to achieve them. I invite you to get your 10 goals and plan to succeed to make your 2020 as awesome as you are...


1.Learn to do 10 Strict Pull Ups:

Doing 10 Strict pull ups isn't as easy as one might think and is going to take some serious effort. Utilising awesome apps like "thenx" will help me raise my game by raising my body..


2. Half my Metabolic Age:

Slicing my metabolic age in half is going to hurt. To achieve this I am going to have to build between 4kg and 6kg of lean muscle whilst dropping my body fat percentile down to around 15%. No more crisps and cider for me for a while, but this is what it takes to achieve this goal so this is what I am going to do.


3. 300kg Deadlift:

With a current lifting personal best of 220kg (484lbs), adding an extra 80kg is going to take some tuff stuff. Adding 5kg per week will get me there and although sometimes it's going to hurt, pushing through is what separates the winners from the wimps so pushing through I shall.


4. In bed by 10pm:

My day starts with my alarm going off at 4am when I get up, have breakfast, feed and walk my wolf and pup and then get ready for my first client at 6am when I then hit between 8 and 12 sessions with my clients meaning I get home at about 9:30pm. Normally after dinner, shower and a bit of chill time, I go to sleep at 11:30pm.....this needs to change so I am going to aim to get to sleep at 10pm in 2020...


5. Save £2,000 for an awesome holiday:

How do you put cash aside when there is hardly anything left at the end of the month? Work harder? Well from point 4, I am sure you will agree that's not a viable or healthy option. The answer is very simple, well for me anyway. Download the app "CHIP" which uses transaction data from your bank to identify your regular outgoings and then uses their ever awesome algorithms to calculate how much you can afford to save each month and then takes it and puts it into a savings account for you without you even missing it.....see, simple.


6. Master the Wall-less Handstand.

I believe we should all have at least one training "Party Trick". In 2019, mine was the fact that I could Barbell Shrug 200kg which was definitely a show stopper at first, but now it's on to 2020 and this year is is going to be a Handstand Push up. Again, I am going to refer to the awesome "THENX" app which is available at the App Store. Most of the features in this app is free including the Technique guides which teach you how to do everything from a handstand to the human flag....I highly recommend it.


7. HALO 5min Sprint.

We could always improve our cardio performance and I am the first to admit that my cardio health can definitely do with a little help. People often assume that because I am a personal trainer, I am super healthy and super fit. I will let you in on a little secret. Even the best personal trainers in the world are only human and we all have our flaws and areas we can improve on. For me, cardio is definitely one of these areas and so I am going to work towards achieving this by doing 5 minute interval sprints with an Elevation Training Mask.

This is an extremely effective way of working your whole cardio system whilst making the workout anaerobic which means it's pure fat burn and muscle building. A great way to lose weight a.k.a reduce body fat whilst building good clean muscle.


8. Learn a new language or skill.

This is one I am really looking forward to as I am going to do both... I am going to learn a new language, but not in the traditional sense. I am going to learn how to code i.e php, html, C+ etc. As I do all my own web design, it would be very useful to be able to code it instead of having to outsource the work. I know for some of you, you couldn't think of anything worse, but for me, it's definitely something I want to learn. I also want to become a master at Facebook Advertising as this will help be able to get blogs like this one to the masses and in doing so, raise Sculpt's online presence. What would your new skill be?


9. Add 3 inches to my Arms

My arms have always been an area I wanted to improve on and with them stuck at 16 inches, I think I have hit a massive barrier. So in 2020 I need to break through this barrier if I want to get my arms to the desired 19 inches. How do I plan to do this? Well I am going to switch my focus from my biceps to my triceps. Your triceps constitute 60% of your arms total musculature. Hitting the triceps hard will give me the growth I need and push through the barrier. How about you?


10. My Final PT year.

After transforming bodies and lives for the past decade, 2020 will be my final year as a full time Personal Trainer. With the launch of my highly successful Supplement company and my graphic and web design company, it's time to try something new. So,2020 will be filled with new challenges and the migration of my career from personal training to full time design.


So, this are my goals for 2020 and how I plan to achieve them. What about you? Do you want to lose weight, climb a mountain, learn to play an instrument? Whatever you decide, make you sure you have a plan to achieve your goals as without the plan, these goals will be nothing more than unrealised dreams and before you know it you will be here again setting yourself up for failure.
